Over the past two plus years, the United States has experience a phenomena unparalleled since the Great Depression. The economy has been attacked from all sides, from bailouts to scandals, fraud and corruption to government mishandling. The private sector has responded to all the uncertainty by downsizing staff, moving of location, or closing down operations completely.
And who has been affected? The American worker and wage earner: you, your families, relatives, friends and fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.

Look around you… one of every 5.4 Americans are either unemployed or underemployed. Statistics show that over 60% of the families in this country have been either directly affected by the recession by the loss of a job/s or indirectly affected by a relative losing their job. Families and individuals are suffering from this loss. Many don’t know what to do. There’s a great deal of frustration amongst those who have lost their jobs. Some have taken positions that are well below their skill sets, others simply are struggling with the fact that there are few interviews. Undeniably, the job market and search has changed over the past several years.
A new ministry is beginning to help those who have lost their jobs or are underemployed. The new ministry is called “Transitions." Several individuals, along with members of the pastoral and counseling center, have been searching how to meet the needs of those business professionals in the body of Central Christian Church as well as throughout the community over and above that of the benevolence side. Areas of discussion in the upcoming months will include networking, addressing résumé concerns, interviewing techniques, how to manage 401K’s and other investments vehicles left at a previous employer, how to contend with non-compete or other employment contracts, tips on dressing for success, and opportunities to take job/personality tests to see identify an individuals strengths, to mention a few. If needed, we may just have a sound off session to relieve frustrations. Who knows, we may even share a good recipe or two. For more information, click here.
Business leaders in the church take note…here will be a pool of quality individuals in which to seek candidates for your future staffing needs. We will be posting open positions on the professional networking site known as LinkedIn.com.
Transitions will be meeting weekly beginning Tuesday November 9, 2010 at 9:00 in the morning in the Choir Room. If you are either unemployed or underemployed, this is an opportunity to network and learn with others in the same situation. All discussions and information will be held in the strictest of confidence. Business owners, leaders and hiring managers are welcome to attend meetings as well. |
